Cambodia's aviation industry is preparing for a major upgrade! The under-construction Techo International Airport (TIA) is nearing completion (over 60% as of February 2024) and is expected to open in 2025. This ambitious project, designed by Foster + Partners, will be managed by Cambodia Airports, a subsidiary of VINCI Airports.
The new airport will be a game-changer, handling up to 13 million passengers annually in the first phase, with capacity expanding to 50 million by 2050. It's estimated to cost $1.5 billion and could become the world's ninth largest airport. Cambodia Airports CEO Cyril Girot highlighted the airport's potential economic impact, generating $3 billion annually for Cambodia and supporting 1.7 million jobs. He also emphasized their focus on sustainability, technology adoption, and the return of long-haul flights, promising more route announcements soon.
